what we found locally to test out on bunny slipper feet...(from the left) 3d paint, tacky glue(can add color), textile medium to add to acrylic paint, and my favorite, glitter-glue named elf dust(tho i do not have high hopes that the glitter will stay on the slipper instead of the floors they are walking on) that is my weekend fun lined up. i've knit some test bits in garter stitch like the slipper bottoms.

ben's slippers came out great, but i will wait till next time to show them. have more slipper knitting fun scheduled for the weekend too. we are having some very wet days outside, all the better to knit in. good weekend to all xo

took me a bit longer to get here than expected, because of a few mistakes. i had finished knitting both and putting one together before i realised my first mistake.

not very see-able here, but the knitting begins with an inch of what my head labeled "hem" then a turning row, then an inch of ribbing. so i first turned the hem to the inside, and it looked less than wonderful(bootee on the left), till i figured out what was meant was for the first inch to fold outward over the ribbing (bootee on the right). a cuff instead of a hem. it's brilliant, the ribbing part will hold onto the wee ankles. but because i had knitted the turning row to go the other way, it meant reknitting ... 2nd mistake...

wrong choice of inner ear color. tried to like it. didn't. now i am off to see if i can post a picture along with all the other bunnies xo

bootie beginnings

march 14

i have never knitted Debbie Bliss pattern before, but have spent lots of time browsing through her numerous books. one thing that is hard about them for me is that there aren't diagrams of how pieces look, and i have a hard time seeing such in my head. so this is what bootee looks like from the start. it is worked flat, the left/right edges here will be sewn together up the back heel, there is an inch of hem, then an inch of ribbing, then the center third is worked outward(top of foot). at this point i'll work back and forth around the instep. it is speedy work, will likely have finished pair to show and tell tomorrow.

there is such an added aura of joy knitting handspun, thank you karen xo.

i'm looking forward to making bigger bunnies for benjamin : ) one addition that's in my mind is to add sticky stuff to the bottoms for no-slip walking. in this mornings blog-reading i found Leigh was thinking about this as well, and someone suggested puffy-paint. there is no end of fun in this world....

book photo

march 13, bunny slippers

here is my project to be for the bunny-along. the photo is from the Debbie Bliss book "Nursery Knits" bunny slippers are for age 3-6 months and include a white fluffy tail. one of karlie's cousins is conveniently having a baby just so that i can knit these. i saw the pattern after my Benjamin had bigger feet than that, but after i work the pattern i bet i can figure out how to make some a bit bigger for him, oh boy ! I'm using some handspun yarn from karen, and pinking the ears with some lovely alchemy silk. baby booties are the next pattern i want to work on for alchemy. its made me very happy to see silk purse showing up more (see bottom of march 2) and more (see march 9) in our knit-blogging world, except that i don't want gina (the yarn painter) to burn herself out, will just trust that she will remain a blissful painter.

want to see if i can remain a blissful journal writer long enough to create category :: bunny slippers

one thing i find very efficient in the journaling formats (like typepad)others use is the ability to mark entries by categories, so that posts about certain projects can all be brought together. i like that. i have wanted to keep separate sites on projects, but manually sorting out the bits can be just shy of fun. i do think it would be quite handy to have all the entries on rogue, for example, sorted onto its own page. i am happy with how 'the year in socks' is coming along (this is my little brothers favorite part of my journal & he is even willing to have socks knitted for him and become an official part of that 'category') so i am thinking about how to arrange a category-journal life here.

my mornings on-line entertainment came almost solely from bagatell where i hopped on board with the...

bunny-along

also, Theresa writes about using lopi double strandedly, that was new & interesting news to me. i think partly why i like Gjestal Naturgarn #1 better than lopi is that it is has a thicker feel. i tend to use smaller needles than recommended in almost all things for liking heavier fabric, but it hadn't entered my brain to use already thick yarn double.

...following links from her sidebar, you can discover how to use a balloon to help you make a center-pull yarn ball...and entertain yourself for hours here including the ability to draw with animated lines!
