August 21 :: Made 3 great starts yesterday so I am feeling
knittily giddy. First, was the start of the 2nd Big Kureyon sock.
They are going to take more than one skein which is a bit of
a pity, but if someone wanted to, I think they could make short
socks from one skein.
Second start was a sofa blanket for a sister-in-law. I had
been trying unhappily several patchwork ideas, and then saw this
pattern on line. It is such a simple thing, that if I explain
it much, noone would need to buy the pattern, and I think it
deserves purchase. After I learn something new knit-wise it often
seems so simple, but in every case, from the very first, the
invention of knitting seems like genius to me. Here is a close-up

August 19: entrelac socks have new heels. I enjoyed working
with the Noro yarn so much I jumped next into this :
which also let me use new to me ebony double points, this
is Big Kureyon and U.S. 4 needles.
Most admirable thing I did yesterday was to take my extremely
great computer skills and turn my entrelac suki pattern into a pdf file. This
involved clicking a save as pdf button. I did at first arrange
it somewhat to fit nicely on pages...tho...I couldn't figure
out how to number them, and there is an extra empty page...and...well,
there is definitely room for my computer skills to grow...but
this is the view new eMac showed me in its preview program this
morning...

Aug. 17 :: Only I (and maybe you) would look at this colorful stash of waterspun weekend and decide
more colors are needed : ) On my online search I heard that it
is no longer being made. There are a few other blues, and some
multi colored (I didn't even know they did
that) on their way to Bandon. During the process I discovered
"Baskets
of Yarn" , my order from them was on its way before
I had finished my searches.
I don't own any size U.S.17 needles recommended for this yarn,
or imagine I could handle them if I did!. I do have some handmade
13's in walnut. I like the look of the stitches with those neeldes.
The weight reminds me of polar fleece, which is why I thought
to copy (in size) my favorite fleece vest, which is being held
together with safety pins, it has been so long loved.
I think what I didn't like about working it up in mitre squares,
is that the garter stitch took away alot of waterspun's softness,
and tho that garter width would be great for rug, I think some
stranded Fassett pattern would be more exciting for me to try.
And I would like to invent slippers for my whole gang, I'd
like to be wild and silly and make them up like nothing any of
us have ever seen before. What a great size to be inventive with.
Another bit of excitement around here is that the peasant
heels from silk garden entrelac socks have worn through, so for
the first time I get to replace them. Removing them made me nervous,
and I discovered that the last bit of triangle before the heel
was quite worn, so I decided I would rework that row as well.
To my astonished 53 year old mind, I could not for the life of
me remember how that was to be done : ) The pattern is from Socks,
Socks, Socks so I will have to look it up.
