:: July 9 :: the witness to the passing of days. I pulled apart the last of silk roving to try to get bigger batches of single color. then I started in on 'chocolate' which is natural colors of alpaca, also did a first bit of mcKenzie alpaca/silk mix (not shown) which is delightful. on the knit side a little is being done each day. the Auraucania orange is 40 of 60 inches in its shawl length now, ribbed edging goes on one long side, wider ribbing goes around the neck. and I'm nearing the end of skein 2 on the undulating moebius, at which point I want to take it off the needles and work the final skein being able to see the true shape of it. this has been the most absorbing knitting lately causing me to daydream ... 'what if I ...' there is knitting sculpture rousing in my brain. next week is our traveling week, first to see my folks & all of my brothers, we haven't been together for several years, this reunion is happening just 8 miles from Threadbear, oh joy, followed by some time with Karl's family. As you know, traveling is not one of my best abilities, but I always keep trying it out. toe up sock in kureyon is coming along for the ride. :: July 2 :: finish one, start two :: this is Alchemy bamboo in Kai's goldfish, the pattern, tiger eyes from Socks, Socks, Socks. I put them in the washer/dryer to see what would happen, it came out scrunchy like silk, nice, but instead of starting in on sock #2 this happened... kureyon toe up sock with 2 circulars (new to me) there is a sock in Gathering of Lace that works a different type of heel, first by adding short rows to the sole midway, then short rows as well to turn heel. I want to try that. this may be my traveling knitting this month. started this too... koi pond Alchemy silk purse, with which I am trying to invent a kimono style vest. this part would be the waist band.

July 5 :: yesterday's spinning andean plied and test knit. it is like having a new baby, can't do anything but stare and touch. July 4 :: bombyx top. after my success with the silk/merino blend I jumped right in to straight silk, this "Indian Summer color" from Chasing Rainbows. here is a closer view of just the spinning. have I mentioned how much I like this? ah. born to spin silk, that's me. here is a page about the moth creature that gave me this pleasure. also tested out another of the wool rovings, but found the barnyardy smell of it a bit unpleasant. want to see what some time in a lavender bath does for it. also July 2 :: mare, last seen spinning her way... I was right about one thing, and that is how much I would love to spin, I put off starting for fear of disappearing. Don't you think it is something so deep in us that it feels spiritual? Here is a nice link to my new spindles from Isreal. Last night I began spinning some silk/merino from Ashland Bay Company (gift from Janet, and a fiber our lys carries) which felt so natural there was no effort, it was like watching the spinning happen.
