 :: September 10 ::

I resisted a sale on cascade 220 (@ purl) It reminded me that I want to be a queen of felting. For now, I'll stay happy with felted yarn. I get to see my whole clan of children this weekend, and I want to spend some time with tape measure and each foot. I am hoping that the large easy knitting gauge of Waterspun Weekend and the relative smallness of feet will let my imagination go wild. I wish, I wish, I wish ...to keep trying new things. On another visit to purl, I didn't resist some "silk purse" and after making a start of my same old lace beginnings to a sock, I started over a bit differently. Am packing this new beginning along on adventure.

 :: September 8 ::

Here is the first sweater using Benjamin's newly known numbers. Didn't use a pattern, just raglan-ed from the bottom up with 3-1 ribbing. When I did the raglan math it seemed I should decrease every third round, but working it proved the math wrong (couldn't be my fault) and I had to redo the top a few times to get it just so. This is made from leftover Donegal Tweed from 'The Map of the World" afghan (bottom of page), and U.S. 5 needles. I think I might like to make a grandma size version of this sweater, though socks and hats would be fun with this yarn too.

I took advantage of this weeks special at Carodan Farm and some of the new colors of Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool are headed my way. I haven't finished the mittens I began with my last bit of Silky Wool, maybe I can before the new arrives...they are Lucy Neatby's paradoxical mittens...I have about 1 inch and a thumb to go on 2nd one.

Visiting with Benjamin was a delight. We hadn't been with him since he was 6 weeks old (he is now 8 months), I hope I don't ever let so much time slip away between visits again. He was very helpful : ) with tape measure, we got alot of measurements on the move...

While he slept I knit on the big kureyon socks, finished them the day he left and instantly began a matching pair for him. Knitting small helps me feel still close to him. This was my first knitting with big kureyon. It, too, was a delight.

August 27 :: Sister-in-law-blanket remains at the top of my knitting fun, followed closely by the first waterspun weekend project...

...one happy argyle vest. This pattern (will have to look it up later on) has a horizontally striped backside, I think I might flip that vertical, or knit it sideways...anyway, first to get through the front. Every few rows I have to stop and untangle myself. I'm using the whole skeins, because the waterspun weekend is extinct, I don't want to guess with bobbin pieces and create any wasted yarn.

While looking through old books this caught my eye, from Best of Knitter's Magazine Shawls and Scarves. I had seen it in person recently at our local yarn store and it looked very fun to do. It is a Meg Swansen pattern. I think it is something Hailey (my all but official daughter-in-law) might get a kick out of, if we can find the just right purple color to make it in.

and best of all...
